The easiest route into the centre by far is to take a quick, regular and efficient MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) train to any of a number of city stations.Buses are still available into the city, though we feel the arrival of the MRT has made these redundant - at least for international visitors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Passengers overburdened with luggage may wish to take a taxi - rides into the city are usually quick and not that expensive (particularly if sharing the cost with a friend). Estimated transfer time to downtown &gt; about 45 minutes from clearance of immigration procedures&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Many of the world’s top airlines have frequent flights to Singapore. Among them are British Airways, United Airlines, Air France, Air New Zealand, Qantas Airways, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways and of course, Singapore International Airlines.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Getting Around In Singapore: The efficient and clean public transportation in Singapore makes getting around the Republic a breeze. Singapore's transportation network offers access to every corner of the island, either by bus, MRT (Singapore's underground rail network), taxis, rented cars and motorbikes or even by foot.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Public buses operate from 6 in the morning to midnight everyday and fares are a little cheaper than the MRT, and far more comprehensive. There are also several bus routes especially useful to sightseers. Singapore has two main bus companies plying its roads - the Trans-Island Bus Services and the Singapore Bus Service. Most fares depend on distance travelled and range from 50c to S$1.10 for non-air conditioned buses, and 60c to S$1.40 for air-conditioned comfort.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are buses charging a flat rate to the destinations displayed on the destination plates in front of the bus. A useful tip for travellers is to avoid rush hour traffic between 8 to 9 in the morning, and 5 to 7 in the evening. Singapore at anytime outside these hours still remains a pleasure to roam about in.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Where To Stay: Hotels are plentiful in Singapore and many are world-class, you’ll have to kick yourself if you can’t find any around. However, I don’t think they have any really low cost dorms or rooms for backpackers. Hotels in Singapore may cost a bit more, but the service offered is very good. In Orchard Road, a great place to stay is The Four Seasons Hotel. The rooms are spacious with tasteful artwork. I think there is like an attendant for each guest.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Where To Eat: Singapore is where you need to be if food and flavor have a special place in your heart: few spots on earth offer the variety of culinary temptations that can be found in the Lion City. Chinese, Malay, Indian, or European - the huge range of choices are made even more appealing by the fact that eating in Singapore can be extremely inexpensive.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Moomba. Upper Circular Road, serves great Australian food. Michelangelos and Sistina. Authentic Italian food at Holland Village What To See:Wild breakfast at Singapore Zoo. Fancy breakfast with one of the Singapore Zoo's famed animals? This coach tour will give you the experience in a new concept in animal keeping with the zoo's beautifully landscaped gardens and very few cages and of course you will enjoy a 'Wild Breakfast' with the friendly 10 metre python, the Orang Utan and a small-clawed otter Thian Hock Keng Temple in China town.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Where To Shop:Singapore’s main shopping district is at Orchard Road. You can find almost anything you can imagine in the shopping centers here. There is this place called The Forum; which has the biggest Toys ‘R Us in Singapore, kids love it. Electronic goods are sold at duty-free prices in Singapore, and there are many great deals around. Many items are available immediately from their global launch in Japan or Europe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Best places to shop for electronics in Singapore are at Sim Lim Square, Lucky Plaza and Far East Plaza. You can find everything from digital cameras, DV camcorders, DVDs, cell phones and even GPS equipment. Techie types are really spoilt for choice here.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Entertainment: The hip and trendy like to hang out at Zouk and Velvet Undeground. The two clubs are easily the best clubs in the island. You can also tie a Hitch to anchor yourself immediately without a sling.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A stopper knot is tied at the end of a rope to prevent the end from unraveling, slipping through another knot and block the end of rope sliding through beloay/rappel device. Knots commonly used for this purpose are:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Overhand knot&lt;br /&gt;Double overhand knot&lt;br /&gt;Figure of Eight Knot&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Two short ropes can form through Bends. You better know it well before a climb..</title><content type='html'>Here I will mention about different climbing calls.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;To the advanced climbers, you can refresh these climbing calls so as to climb better and safer.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;During climbing, the calls are short and precise to avoid ambiguity. Calls will have to be loud &lt;a href="http://www.mattsoar.org/archives/loud.gif"&gt;&lt;img style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 200px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.mattsoar.org/archives/loud.gif" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;during climbing so as to be heard easily. Below are a few commonly used calls:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Call Meaning&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;ON BELAY&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;Climber says this to ensure that the belayer is ready and alert.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;BELAY IS ON&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;In response belayer will reply to indicate that he is prepared to belay, after making sure all knots, gates shut, tight on belay, in line with belay and able to brake correctly&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;CLIMBING&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Climber will say this to let the belayer know he is about to begin the climb&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;CLIMB ON&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Belayer’s response indicating that he is ready and the climber can begin climbing&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The above rock climbing calls are usually done in order on the ground prior to a climb after all necessary checks on the equipments have been conducted.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;TAKING IN&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;Belayer will take up any slack in the rope requested by the climber.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;SLACK&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is requested by the climber so that the belayer will give some slack, usually during clipping/unclipping of runner or top climbing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;TIGHT!&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Often called by the climber, either when making an awkward move, or when expecting to fall off.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;OFF BELAY&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Climber says this when setting up a rappel at the top of a route so that the belayer knows that the climber is tied off to an anchor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;ROPE!&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Call to warn other climbers when lowering or throwing out a rope or abseiling, top roping etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Calls may vary but do bear in mind that so long that both climbers and belayers have common understanding and agreement on the calls before the climb.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;http://bouldering-guide.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full

All-purpose shoes are typically cut high to protect your ankles and designed to be comfortable as well as protective.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Next is especially to Advanced Climbers but the beginners can take a look to so you can better prepare next time when you are buying shoes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are a lot of types of shoes on the market. Different shoes will work better in different situations. The opening of the carabiner snap close and screw is tightened to secure the gate.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.backcountry.com/store/PTZ0089/Petzl-Elios-Helmet.html?CP=Affiliate&amp;CMP=AFC-Affiliate&amp;amp;ATT=date&amp;GCID=C2000x067-datafeed"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Helmet&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For this, I will not elaborate much. The main purpose is to protect the head from injury in falls, but also it will protect you from falling debris when you are climbing. However do not mistaken that you can use any helmet for climbing. One thing to take note: When a helmet takes a major blow or become brittle with age, it should be replaced. Which will offer more protection? A harness forms a chair when you tie-in. Remember that a good fit and comfort in the waist and leg loops is critical.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sport climbers and indoor climbers will typically use a minimalist harness that is comfortable with sewn gear loops. If there is enough room to turn your fingers, the waist belt is not tight enough. This is to make sure the harness you are wearing is not so tight that it is restricts your breathing or movement.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Leg Loops are loops that go around your thighs tight. Similarly the placement of three fingers between the loop and thigh will be a good estimate. Buckles on leg loops can be used to tighten the straps.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Buckles MUST be double backed to ensure highest safety level. Some harnesses makes come with speed buckles which are already double backed. The climber just has to pull the belt part to tighten your waist belt or leg loops.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Gear Loops vary in many different sizes and designs. They are commonly sewn on to your harness and are used to carry gear such as the extra carabinar or quickdraws while climbing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Belay Loop connects your waist and leg loops makes clipping into anchors a snap. The belay loop isn’t meant to be used as a tie-in point for your rope. Always tie in by threading the rope through both your leg and waist loops.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Padding varies among climbing harnesses. In the winter, harnesses with seat-belt material because you'll probably be climbing less and your thick clothes will act as padding.&lt;br /&gt;Conversely during summer times, you'll want a padded harness since you will be not be in thick clothing as in winter .&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tips for Selecting a &lt;a href="http://www.backcountry.com/store/PTZ0085/Petzl-Hirundos-Climbing-Harness.html?CP=Affiliate&amp;CMP=AFC-Affiliate&amp;amp;ATT=date&amp;GCID=C2000x067-datafeed"&gt;Climbing Harness &lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A harness forms a chair when you tie-in and fit in the waist and leg loops. Also now climbing competitions are done on indoor climbing walls or even the walls are even sometimes moved outside. It provides a great opportunity to learn to climb in a very controlled environment. Perhaps this is where any climber can start to develop your own climbing style and philosophy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Bouldering ( My Favourite of All)&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is my personal favourite. &lt;em&gt;Bouldering is a very explosive type of climbing.&lt;/em&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 284px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="151" alt="" src="http://www.theshortspan.com/photo/fairheadricky.jpg" border="0" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Bouldering is climbing performed with no rope or belay at the base of a cliff, on large rocks at a boulder field, or in a climbing gym. I love it since it is hassle-free. And when bouldering, climbers usually never get more than a few feet off the ground. A mix of spotters and &lt;a href="http://link.mercent.com/redirect.ashx?mr:merchantID=REI&amp;mr:trackingCode=A0D79140-2CE2-DB11-A7E4-001422107090&amp;amp;mr:targetUrl=http://www.rei.com/OM/style/734822%3fcm_mmc%3daff_cj-_-datafeed-_-product-_-na"&gt;crash pads &lt;/a&gt;are used to ensure safe landings. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This style requires the least amount of gear – you only need your &lt;a href="http://link.mercent.com/redirect.ashx?mr:merchantID=REI&amp;mr:trackingCode=96D39140-2CE2-DB11-A7E4-001422107090&amp;amp;mr:targetUrl=http://www.rei.com/OM/style/722501%3fcm_mmc%3daff_cj-_-datafeed-_-product-_-na"&gt;shoes&lt;/a&gt; (my favourite), &lt;a href="http://link.mercent.com/redirect.ashx?mr:merchantID=REI&amp;mr:trackingCode=90EA9140-2CE2-DB11-A7E4-001422107090&amp;amp;mr:targetUrl=http://www.rei.com/REI-Outlet/OM/style/757483%3fcm_mmc%3daff_cj-_-datafeed-_-product-_-na"&gt;chalk bag&lt;/a&gt;, and crash pad. Problems known as ‘routes’ are series of moves, which you can do over and over again until you master them. Addition of moves will increase the challenge. Lastly you &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6"&gt;shouldn&lt;/span&gt;’t try this type of climbing at a high height.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;*Remember &lt;strong&gt;Every Climb Matters&lt;/strong&gt; and please take note your safety*&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Ice Climbing&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ice Climbing, as the term indicates, is the activity of ascending inclined ice formations. Climber will use &lt;a href="http://www.backcountry.com/store/PTZ0092/Petzl-Aztarex-Ice-Tool.html?CP=Affiliate&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;CMP=AFC-Affiliate&amp;ATT=date&amp;amp;GCID=C2000x067-datafeed"&gt;ice tools&lt;/a&gt; efficiently; a climber will be able to climb vertical ice, such as frozen waterfalls. Ice axes and crampons are the main tools the ice climber uses. Usually, though, ice climbing refers to roped and protected climbing of features such as &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7"&gt;icefalls&lt;/span&gt;, frozen waterfalls, and cliffs and rock slabs covered with ice refrozen from flows of water. However disadvantage of ice climbing is that the ice is incredibly variable under different conditions. Falling and getting up againg is hardly possible...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Instead of focusing on your moves, the solo climber is totally committed to reach the summit. You don’t have any protection gear. This is a very high level of climbing and involves great risk. If you are a beginner, this is highly discouraged.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Phew guess it is a long now.
